Research on subtropical plants
The Okinawa Churashima Foundation Research Institute conducts introduction, collection (including donations) and preservation of rare plant species, specimens and folk craft articles made from plant materials through the process of daily research studies.
We collect and cultivate rare plan species that grow naturally in Okinawa such as Viola stoloniflora and Calanthe discolor Lindley f. kanashiroi Nakajima.
The foundation collects and preserves rare seeds from around the world such as that of Alsomitra macrocarpa and Harpagophytum procumbens.
The foundation collects and preserves fiber, colorant, and folk craft articles made from plant materials.
The foundation collects and preserves folk craft articles made from plant materials mainly from Southeast Asian countries such as Vietnam and Thailand.
