We “Protect” and “Nurture” Plants in Okinawa

We are experts on plants in Okinawa: We have been conducting projects related to subtropical plants such as investigative research, technological development, awareness-raising activities, and the management and operation of large-scale parks and botanical gardens, with the Research Institute as the base.

Investigative Research and Technological Development

We have been conducting such activities as investigative research, technological development, entrusted surveys, and matters related to improvement of park functions.

Investigative research on such matters as the introduction and fertility management of useful plants such as orchids, tropical fruit trees, flowering trees, and foliage plants
Investigative research on such matters as the preservation and utilization of plants native to Okinawa
Investigative research on environmental greening, such as greening of walls, etc.

Awareness-Raising Activities

We have been promoting environmental education for children, conducting awareness-raising activities related to subtropical plants targeting the general public, and holding lectures, workshops, etc. targeting professionals.

Holding of educational programs (Churashima Nature Class, Children’s Crafts Workshop)
Holding of workshops, lectures, technical presentations, exhibitions, etc. on subtropical plants
Training of “flower and greenery coordinators” aimed at promoting cooperation toward the greening of local communities, etc.

Management and Operation of Facilities

We have been conducting management and operation through which the attractiveness of the facilities can be drawn out to the maximum by leveraging our high expertise on subtropical plants and management know-how, with top priority given to customer satisfaction.

Provision of Plant Management, Culturing/Cultivation Technology

We offer technology and advice on the introduction, fertilization management, and cultivation technology, development of new cultivars, wall greening, and mass propagation of subtropical plants.

Entrusted Surveys

We accept requests for investigative research related to native Okinawan plants including orchids, tropical fruit trees, flowering trees, and ornamental plants. We also conduct surveys on environmental greening such as greening of roofs and walls.

Implementation of Various Events

We conduct such events as experience-type nature classes and crafts workshops using plants. We have a variety of programs that are fun and easy to understand.

Dispatch of Professional Technicians

We dispatch professional technicians with a wealth of experience who will provide technology and technological guidance. In addition, we accept requests for workshops targeting professionals and dispatch of technicians for special classes at schools.

Lending of Specimens and Materials

We have a large collection of specimens and materials that we can lend including seed specimens from around the world, plant-derived fibers, and everyday articles (that have come to be regarded as folk art) made from plants.
